NEET 2026 Counseling: State Quota vs All-India Quota Explained

By Dr. Counselor (ACP) · May 22, 2026 · 2 min read

After clearing NEET-UG, the real game begins: counseling. India has two parallel counseling processes for medical seats — and understanding both is critical to landing your best possible college.

What is All-India Quota (AIQ)?

15% of seats in all government medical colleges are reserved for All-India Quota. Counseling is conducted by MCC (Medical Counseling Committee).

What is State Quota?

85% of seats in government medical colleges of your domicile state are reserved for state-quota candidates. Counseling is conducted by your state authority — for Maharashtra, it is CET Cell.

Should you apply to both?

Almost always yes. You can fill AIQ choices and state choices in parallel. You get the best of both pools.
